Meet Robert Johnston, the creator, author, and illustrator, as he discusses his unique approach to children's guitar instruction;

And now a word from Squawkabilly himself...

"Hello, my name is squawkabilly! Together, we're going to have fun learning to play the guitar!"

"My Best Pal, Little Rock, and I have written two books together so far to help you learn to play guitar, "Let's Jam" and "We're Jammin". We're also working on a third book called "Squawkabilly's Song Book" that will feature our favorite songs."

"Little rock and I play in a band called the "The Jam Brothers". Our drummer, Hurly, is a crab who is a little shy of having his picture taken, but he's an awesome drummer. We live in a place called Rock City. Maybe you've heard of it."

"In addition to playing guitar, we also love acting, and hope to be on TV someday."

Each lesson in the book begins with learning a group of notes and how to play them on the guitar, followed by a song that uses those notes. Squawkabilly sings "I love my feathers, fluffy soft, and warm. If I had no feathers...I would look like a worm!"

     This group of notes is the "Line notes" found on each line of the five lines of the music staff. It's easy to memorize these notes (E,G,B,D, & F) by reciting the phrase "Every Good Bird Deserves Feathers."

     Printed full-color copies of each lesson are made available to my students, and are kept in your own personal 3-ring music binder.

     As a music teacher, I've worked with hundreds of kids and witnessed first hand the difference that music makes in a child's life. Here's a cool video I found featuring the benefits of childhood music education;

     I hope by now, you're starting to see the value that one-on-one lessons have to offer. While YouTube lessons are helpful, they can only take you so far and are no substitute for having a real life guitar coach there with you in person to help you reach your goals faster and more efficiently. For example, I'll be able to catch you right away if I notice any bad habits forming, which could save you years of headaches. Also, I have a library of music for tens of thousands of songs, (that I can't post online for copyright reasons), including virtually any song you'd ever want to learn. For private lessons, we'll supplement songs you're working on with what you're learning about music theory, so you'll learn how the theory relates back to the music. This, in turn, will help you to become a better musician and put you on the fast track towards being able to write your own arrangements and compositions. I hope to have the chance to meet you soon and help you reach your goals!
