     Want to see a sample of my teaching method? No problem!

     Here are some cool free guitar instruction videos and lessons posted on my blog. All of the exercises and illustrations are from my "Hello Guitar" book series. Please note that my website domain has changed since the time these were created so some of the links may no longer be available.

  Easy Sample Lesson for Beginners

     Before we get into really fun stuff like minor scales and blues, I wanted to do a quick series of beginner lessons. This will be good for you beginners out there who are looking for an easy step to help get you started, as well provide a handful of exercises for those of you advanced players who teach guitar and/or have been known to spread the gift of guitar from time to time.

 Intermediate Sample Lesson On Chords

     In the next series of lessons, we're going to cover the basics of chord inversions; multiple ways to play a given chord using alternate voicing. Pay close attention over the next few weeks and you'll be zipping through your inversions and arpeggios like a pro in no time. But first, you'll need to brush up on your knowledge of the five octave positions.

 Intermediate-Advanced Sample Lesson On Lydian Mode

     The fourth mode of the major key is the Lydian mode, and is named after the ancient lydians who were at their height of power around 600 B.C. The Lydians were the first people to use gold and silver coins as a form of currency, so it's no wonder that this mode sounds so rich and exotic. It's also for this reason that Lydian mode is most popular with today's progressive rock guitar gods like Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. I wonder how the ancient Lydians would react if they could hear how far their music has echoed into the future.... it would probably blow their minds!

Robert Johnston, creator, author, and illustrator of the "Hello Guitar" series discusses his unique approach to children's guitar instruction;

 Sample Children's Guitar Lesson (Ages 5+)

     I hope by now, you're starting to see the value that one-on-one lessons have to offer. While YouTube lessons are helpful, they can only take you so far and are no substitute for having a real life guitar coach there with you in person to help you reach your goals faster and more efficiently. For example, I'll be able to catch you right away if I notice any bad habits forming, which could save you years of headaches. Also, I have a library of music for tens of thousands of songs, (that I can't post online for copyright reasons), including virtually any song you'd ever want to learn. For private lessons, we'll supplement songs you're working on with what you're learning about music theory, so you'll learn how the theory relates back to the music. This, in turn, will help you to become a better musician and put you on the fast track towards being able to write your own arrangements and compositions. I hope to have the chance to meet you soon and help you reach your goals!
